Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.(Isaiah 43:19, CSB)

She gets up, goes to work, comes home, takes care of her family, goes to bed and starts the routine all over again tomorrow. Her life is comfortable and she feels she should be content with what she has because she has more than most and yet….There is a tugging at her heart saying there is something more she was created for. And yet there is a need she sees in the world that she feels ought to be different.  Instead of getting still and tuning into the nudge she thinks it’s too big, too wild, too crazy and so it’s easier to fill her schedule with stuff in order to crowd out the feeling she has and create no space for it to take root. Does that sound like you? I know that was me for many years.

I thought that I shouldn’t want anything more, because I essentially had my dream job, I had a family who I loved and loved me and I was doing mission work both locally and globally. So why was I not content?

Then I came across Isaiah 43:19, which God used to speak to my weary soul. First of all I realized I was wondering in the wilderness, because the wilderness is essentially our comfort zone. Are you living in your comfort zone or courage zone? We are constantly seeking comfort, comfortable shoes, comfortable clothes, comfortable chairs, comfortable beds, etc. But not once in the Bible does God say “Do not be afraid and be comfortable.” Rather he says “Do not be afraid and be courageous.”  Life is not meant to be coasted through, rather it is in the challenges that we are invited to grow, stretch and become more of who we were created to be.

The second thing I saw in Isaiah 43:19, was that God has called me to something new. Our life is not like a movie where we have one major problem and then we solve it and everyone lives happily ever after. Rather our life is like a TV series, where in each episode the characters face new challenges and they continue to grow and evolve. God has called you to a new episode and in your new episode you will face another challenge. In your challenges though be like Caleb who in Joshua 14 tells his good friend, “You may see me as an 85 year old man, but I have the strength of a young man. I am not ready for the retirement home, rather I want my next challenge. Give me the land high on the mountain that is filled with the people others are too afraid to take on. For I know God will be by my side.”

God is ready to do something new in you and through you are willing to step outside your comfort zone to create space for God to show you what he has planned?

Your something new is coming, God is just waiting for you to say yes!
